Softball Recap: Riverside Extends Winning Streak to Four

Riverside has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.5 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Lehman Catholic Cavaliers as they made off with a 17-10 victory. The win was nothing new for the Pirates as they're now sitting on four straight.

Keira Manahan was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Jayden Hoffer and Aubree Huston did most of the damage at the plate: Hoffer went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Huston went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave Huston a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaidyn Jackson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.

Riverside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Riverside's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Lehman Catholic, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-5.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Riverside will face off against rival Miami East at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Pirates 3.5, the Vikings 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Lehman Catholic is set to challenge their familiar foe Covington at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
