The Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines will head out on the road to challenge the Milford Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Wilber-Clatonia and five for Milford.
Last Thursday, Wilber-Clatonia came up short against Freeman and fell 43-31. While losing is never fun, Wilber-Clatonia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while Freeman is ranked 34th).
Despite their loss, Wilber-Clatonia saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Aiden Zajicek, who scored 14 points, was perhaps the best of all. Zajicek's trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Carter Skleba was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Meanwhile, Milford also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to Sutton by a score of 39-29.
Wilber-Clatonia dropped their record down to 6-8 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Milford, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
Wilber-Clatonia was able to grind out a solid win over Milford in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, winning 38-31. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wilber-Clatonia since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
