Softball Recap: Marcellus Has No Trouble Against Jordan-Elbridge

Marcellus never got on the board in their matchup last Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Jordan-Elbridge on Thursday. They blew past the Eagles 11-1. Considering the Mustangs have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Kendall LaManche made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Millie Novitsky and Maddy Richer did most of the damage at the plate: Novitsky went 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI, while Richer went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Richer has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Jordan O'Connor, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Marcellus was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jordan-Elbridge only posted a batting average of .167.

Marcellus is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Jordan-Elbridge, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marcellus will welcome Chittenango at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bears will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Jordan-Elbridge, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Westhill at 6:00 p.m.
