The Cyprus Pirates struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Friday (the West Jordan Jaguars were 23% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. Cyprus took a hard 56-40 fall against West Jordan. Cyprus has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Cyprus saw an underclassman step up: Koli Fosita scored 17 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Xian Brown, who scored 12 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Jordan to victory, but perhaps none more so than Colton Blackham, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Szymanski, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Cyprus' loss dropped their record down to 3-15. As for West Jordan, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-10.
Cyprus will be playing in front of their home fans against Taylorsville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cyprus will be up against Taylorsville's rather soft defense (which has allowed 52.67 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive showing. As for West Jordan, they will head out on the road to challenge Juan Diego Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Juan Diego Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine games -- so hopefully West Jordan likes a good challenge.
