The Reed Raiders suffered their biggest defeat since November 28, 2023 on Friday. They were outmatched by Spanish Springs on the road and fell 71-40. While losing is never fun, Reed can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while Spanish Springs is ranked 16th).
Several Raiders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Eliana Atlookan, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Maxwell, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Layni Noonkester continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Spanish Springs, scoring 21 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Vance, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Reed and nudges their season record down to 1-10. As for Spanish Springs, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-8.
Reed will be playing in front of their home fans against Bishop Manogue at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Bishop Manogue is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road. As for Spanish Springs, they will square off against Damonte Ranch at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Damonte Ranch focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
