Mid-State 38 - Union recap October 1, 2013
Robert Schaufler of Bernards ran for the longest rushing play in Mid-State 38 - Union this season against Manville last week. Schaufler's team defeated the Mustangs as he sprinted for 65 yards on the play and finished with 87 in all.
Belvidere scaled the state rankings by moving to 238 from 284 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The County Seaters climbed the ranks as a result of losing to Morristown-Beard 36-6.
Bernards' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tyler Baum threw for 79 and 2 touchdowns and Jordan Tantleff had 64 yards receiving. On the ground Schaufler chipped in 87 yards.
Schaufler was a passing and rushing force as Jon Simoneau's team beat Manville. Schaufler's key target this week was Tantleff, who caught 3 passes for 64 yards.
Schaufler was the most successful running back in the league this week. Teammate Sebastian Sanchez added to the ground attack by rushing for 64 yards.
Bernards' offense cannot be tamed this season and the Mountaineers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Baum has thrown for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns this season, while Sanchez has 7 catches for 96 yards.
At the moment, the Mountaineers are in second, while Belvidere is in fifth.
Bernards was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from fourth to second in Mid-State 38 - Union. The Mountaineers beat Patrick Gorbatuk's team 47-14 earlier in the week.
