If the Decatur Community Red Devils were feeling good off their 54-27 takedown of the Greeley County Jackrabbits last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Decatur Community fell 36-23 to Norton on Tuesday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Decatur Community has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Decatur Community saw an underclassman step up: Brylee Minnick scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Jenna Fortin, who scored six points.
Norton was led to victory by Payton Bailey and Jenessa Ruder. Bailey scored seven points along with seven rebounds and five assists, while Ruder scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Hallie Brooks, who scored six points along with three steals.
Decatur Community's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Norton, their win bumped their record up to 12-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Decatur Community will face off against Northern Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Norton, they will head out on the road to take on Smith Center at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Kansas (Norton is ranked 30th, while Smith Center is ranked 34th).
