Softball Recap: Seton Catholic Central Takes a Loss

Seton Catholic Central extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-5 in the process. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Owego Free Academy River Hawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the River Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-4 on April 14th.

Olivia Nazarenus put in work while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Shannon Mentz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. That triple was her first of the season. Adelyn Schmidt was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run.

As for Owego Free Academy, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

On Owego Free Academy's side, Miley Laubach was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Geneva Crawford, who earned three runs and three stolen bases.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Seton Catholic Central will venture away from home to face off against Susquehanna Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Sabers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Saints surely won't give up without a fight. As for Owego Free Academy, they will square off against Elmira at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
