Softball Recap: Kearsarge Comes Up Short

Kearsarge had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-6 to make it 11. They lost 21-1 to the Monadnock Huskies. The Cougars were not able to make up for their defeat to the Huskies from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Kearsarge saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alexis Shaughnessy 2028, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Those stolen bases were Shaughnessy 2028's first of the season.

As for Monadnock, the win keeps they at an undefeated 5-0. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won four contests by 11 runs or more so far this season.

On Monadnock's side, Ari Drouin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Drouin has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Monadnock let Cainen Avery and Paetyn Simonds run wild. Avery got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one triple, while Simonds went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. With that strong performance, Avery is now averaging an impressive 1.4 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Tiannah Hull, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.

Looking ahead, Kearsarge will welcome Somersworth at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Toppers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.6 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Monadnock, they will head out on the road to square off against Brattleboro at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
