The Magna Vista Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 21 points or more this season. Everything went their way against Liberty on Wednesday as Magna Vista made off with a 49-28 win. For Magna Vista, this counts as revenge for the 63-54 loss Liberty walked away with the last time they faced one another last Thursday.
Liberty lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Shania Brown, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Brown scored a full 42.9% of Liberty's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taniesha Brown, who scored nine points along with 12 rebounds.
Liberty struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Magna Vista's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Liberty, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Magna Vista will take on Mecklenburg County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mecklenburg County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 195th, while Magna Vista is ranked 34th). Liberty won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Liberty Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 4th. Liberty Christian is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
