The Westfield Shamrocks's four-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 53-50 victory over Ben Davis. Given Westfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Ben Davis is ranked 140th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ellie Kelleher, who scored 13 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Reagan Lorenzen, who scored 14 points.
Despite the loss, Ben Davis still got an impressive performance from Zoe Wheeler, who scored 19 points along with two steals. Wheeler is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shania Curry, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Ben Davis struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Westfield racked up 14 assists.
Westfield's win bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Ben Davis, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost nine of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.
Westfield on the road again on Tuesday and play against Hamilton Southeastern at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. One thing working in Hamilton Southeastern's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 14 games. As for Ben Davis, they will head out on the road to face off against Carmel at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Carmel will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
