Gatewood has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Brentwood War Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Gatewood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 267th, while Brentwood is ranked 79th).
Last Tuesday, Gatewood lost to Piedmont Academy at home by a decisive 63-46 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Gatewood in their matchups with Piedmont Academy: they've now lost six in a row.
Meanwhile, Brentwood waltzed into their match on Tuesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Westminster Christian Academy 69-27 on the road. Brentwood has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 20 points or more this season.
Bailey Barron and Faith Archer were among the main playmakers for Brentwood as the former dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds and the latter scored 12 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Barron hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 11 straight games. AnneMarie Sheppard was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Gatewood has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season. As for Brentwood, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-4.
Gatewood lost to Brentwood on the road by a decisive 51-36 margin in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Gatewood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
