Vardaman hasn't had much luck against South Pontotoc recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Rams will take on the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Vardaman is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
Vardaman took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. Everything went their way against French Camp Academy as they made off with a 10-2 win. Considering the Rams have won 13 contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Cooper Easley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Taylen Carter was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Gatlin McGreger, who earned three RBI and one run.
Tishomingo County hit South Pontotoc with a four-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars came up short against the Braves, falling 12-4. The Cougars have struggled against the Braves recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Vardaman's victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for South Pontotoc, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-16.
Vardaman couldn't quite finish off South Pontotoc in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
