The Cathedral Fighting Irish will face off against the Zionsville Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cathedral will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Cathedral took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand St. Xavier an 11-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Fighting Irish, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.

Landon Hughes tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Eli Bennett, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Carlos, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Cathedral always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Xavier only posted an OBP of .263.
Meanwhile, Zionsville didn't have quite enough to beat Fishers on Friday and fell 2-1. The contest marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Peter Ward was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those zero earned runs gave him a new career-low.
On the hitting side, Riley Agbonhese made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases.
Cathedral pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Zionsville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cathedral has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .463. However, it's not like Zionsville struggles in that department as they've averaged .443. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Cathedral's way against Zionsville when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Cathedral made off with a 10-2 victory. Will the Fighting Irish repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
