The Millard South Patriots will face off against the Millard West Wildcats at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Millard South is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Millard South is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nebraska's top teams: Papillion-LaVista, who was ranked 14th at the time (Millard South was ranked second). The Patriots took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Monarchs on Saturday. The Patriots' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Roy Steventon made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake McAndrews, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Millard West was a bit more limited in their contest on Saturday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Elkhorn South. Wildcats fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Storm since on Saturday.
Millard West also got a good showing from Rowen Scholting, who pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Scholting has allowed over his last four matches.
On the hitting side, Millard West saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Daniel, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.
Millard West's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 21-12. As for Millard South, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 23-10.
Millard West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Millard South hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .348. It's a different story for Millard West, though, as they've only averaged .253. Will they be able to contain Millard South's hitters?
Millard South beat Millard West 8-4 in their previous meeting back in April. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
