The Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Knights will challenge the Columbia City Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Fort Wayne Bishop Luers took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Fort Wayne North Side as they made off with an 11-1 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Knights needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Fort Wayne Bishop Luers let Delaney Caldwell and Julia Spoltman run wild. Caldwell went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Spoltman went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those RBI were Caldwell's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Dennis, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Fort Wayne Bishop Luers was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Columbia City waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Lions a 9-0 shutout. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Emma Hiss, who gave up just four hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep Bremen off the board. Hiss has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Madelyn Brady was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Eden Taylor was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Columbia City pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fort Wayne Bishop Luers hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. However, it's not like Columbia City struggles in that department as they've averaged .360. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fort Wayne Bishop Luers might still be hurting after the 10-2 defeat they got from Columbia City in their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
