Football Game Preview: Weequahic Indians vs. Memorial Tigers

The Weequahic Indians will venture away from home to take on the Memorial Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Weequahic's defense has only allowed 8.2 points per game this season, so Memorial's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Weequahic is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Jersey's top teams: East Orange Campus, who was ranked 21st at the time (Weequahic was ranked 11th). The Indians put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 26-6 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won three games by 20 points or more so far this season.

Weequahic got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Heaven Porter out in front who picked up 60 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 47 yards and one score. That's the most receiving yards Porter has posted since back in March. Another signal caller making a difference was Haddiyah Bell, who threw for 160 yards and one TD on only 11 passes.

Weequahic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. Porter picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown. She got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Memorial had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took a blow against Beloved Community Charter back in April, falling 31-0.

Weequahic is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.2 points on average over those games. As for Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
