Baseball Recap: Canton Extends Road Winning Streak to Four

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Canton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They beat the Lewis Mills Spartans by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-5 on Tuesday.

Tyler Rottkamp looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Oden Berg, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Canton: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-6 otherwise. James Canny was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Canton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive games.

Canton's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Lewis Mills, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Canton will welcome Rockville at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Lewis Mills, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Farmington at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The River Hawks will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight.
