Chaminade is 1-9 against Archbishop Stepinac since November of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Chaminade Flyers will head out on the road to face off against the Archbishop Stepinac Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Chaminade has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Archbishop Stepinac will arrive with four straight victories.
Last Friday, Chaminade lost to Cardinal Hayes on the road by a decisive 36-18 margin. While losing is never fun, Chaminade can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 57th, while Cardinal Hayes is ranked fourth).
Chaminade's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Tyler Granito, who threw for 259 yards and two touchdowns, and Brendan Park who picked up 58 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, even though St. Anthony's scored an imposing 35 points on Friday, Archbishop Stepinac still came out on top. Archbishop Stepinac blew past St. Anthony's 56-35. Considering Archbishop Stepinac has won four matches by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Archbishop Stepinac to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jordan Osbourne, who rushed for 175 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Lorenzo Robinson, who rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Archbishop Stepinac's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB eight times. The heavy lifting was done by Eddie Palumbo iii and Julian Ramos who racked up five sacks between them.
Chaminade's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Archbishop Stepinac, their victory was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-2.
Chaminade suffered a grim 42-21 defeat to Archbishop Stepinac when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can Chaminade avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
