Baseball Recap: Montello's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

Montello dropped their record down to 5-3 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They lost 12-2 to the Pardeeville Bulldogs. The matchup marked the Hilltoppers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

As for Pardeeville, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games.

For Pardeeville's part, Preston Jenkins made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Jenkins has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Nick Sween and Logan Young did most of the damage at the plate: Sween got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs, while Young got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Sween has posted since back in May of 2024. Austin Dechert also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

While Montello had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
