Winning is just a little bit easier when you nail five more threes than your opponent, a fact the Mammoth Huskies proved on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 49-28 margin over Lone Pine. Given Mammoth's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while Lone Pine is ranked 763rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mammoth had a senior duo take command as Tyler Jones dropped a double-double on 12 points and 10 rebounds and Forest Daniels scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Toomey, who scored 6 points along with 13 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Lone Pine saw an underclassman step up: Cristian Duran scored 12 points. Ralph Enriquez was another key contributor, scoring 5 points along with 8 rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Mammoth and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Lone Pine, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Sierra Lutheran the next time they take the court. Lone Pine will head out to face Sierra Lutheran at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Mammoth will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
