Coby Dillon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 53% from the field en route to 27 points and six rebounds. Those 27 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Clary, who posted eight points along with six boards and three steals.
Meanwhile, Spring Valley didn't have too much trouble with Parkersburg on Tuesday as they won 70-53. Given the Timberwolves' advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Big Reds are ranked 48th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Spring Valley's win came from a few key players Woodrow Wilson will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Harrison Riggs, who went 10-for-14 on his way to 24 points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks. He has also also been stellar as far as field goal percentage is concerned: he's posted one of at least 45% every time he's hit the court this season. Another player making a difference was Colton Caldwell, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine boards.
Spring Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.
Woodrow Wilson's record is now 18-3. As for Spring Valley, their record now sits at 19-2.
Keep an eye on the arc in Wednesday's match: Woodrow Wilson has made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having averaged 8.6 three-pointers per game. It's a different story for Spring Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 threes. Given Woodrow Wilson's sizable advantage in that area, Spring Valley will need to find a way to close that gap.
Woodrow Wilson barely slipped by Spring Valley in their previous matchup back in February of 2020, winning 80-79. The rematch might be a little tougher for Woodrow Wilson since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
