East Marion might have lost, but man, Jabarrus Jefferson was a machine: he rushed for 93 yards and one touchdown on only six carries. Jefferson got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 91 yards. Jaquez Hathorn helped out on the ground, rushing for 94 yards.
Meanwhile, Sacred Heart entered their tilt with Wilkinson County on Friday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 37-14 win. Considering the Crusaders have won four contests by more than 22 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
East Marion better keep an eye on Luke Davey. He was instrumental in Sacred Heart's win, rushing for 236 yards and five TDs while picking up 10.3 yards per carry. Davey also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing two fumbles and making eight total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Sacred Heart was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 393 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.
Sacred Heart's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for East Marion, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. East Marion has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 148.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sacred Heart struggles in that department as they've been averaging 208.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
East Marion barely slipped by Sacred Heart when the teams last played back in October of 2024, winning 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
