Keegan Luxem tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Marcus Krecu, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Charlie Arvanitis was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Hersey kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Niles West started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Glenbrook South. They fell just short of the Titans by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday. The Wolves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Yacoub Rayan was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Niles West saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Lim, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Eli Ordower also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Hersey's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Niles West, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8-1.
Niles West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hersey has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Niles West, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Hersey's sizable advantage in that area, the Wolves will need to find a way to close that gap.
