This season hasn't been kind to the Far Northeast W Warriors, who are still winless after their 12th match. Their tough 70-50 defeat to DSST: Montview on Saturday might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Far Northeast W can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 306th, while DSST: Montview is ranked 44th).
When it comes to explaining why Far Northeast W lost, one person who can't be blamed is Devan Womley. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. That's the first time this season that Womley scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Griffin-Cobbs, who scored 13 points.
Even though they lost, Far Northeast W were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Tara Majok was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 31 points and 11 rebounds for DSST: Montview. Majok hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Harun Hamma was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with two steals.
Far Northeast W bumped their record down to 0-12 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for DSST: Montview, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Far Northeast W will take on Denver West at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Denver West's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five contests. As for DSST: Montview, they will head out on the road to challenge Bruce Randolph at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bruce Randolph comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
