Wilmington hasn't had much luck against Morris recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wildcats will challenge the Redskins at 4:30 p.m. Wilmington will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Morris' hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: Wilmington hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. The Wildcats blew past Bloom 14-0 on Thursday. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by eight runs or more this season.
Lexi Strohm looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Molly Southall, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two triples. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Nina Egizio, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, Morris beat Reed-Custer 7-2 on Thursday. The Redskins haven't had any issues with the Comets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Tessa Shannon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on zero hits.
On the hitting side, Cami Pfeifer and Halie Olson did most of the damage at the plate: Pfeifer went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Olson went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Karson Dransfeldt, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Wilmington pushed their record up to 19-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Morris, their record now sits at 18-7.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wilmington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .419. However, it's not like Morris struggles in that department as they've averaged .375. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wilmington came up short against Morris in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 8-3. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
