Two dominant guards in Mayeen Majong and Jussean Pearsall are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Lewis J. Bennett Tigers will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the East Panthers at 1:30 p.m. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Lewis J. Bennett and four for East.
Back in January, Lewis J. Bennett was beaten by Health Sciences Charter 91-47. While losing is never fun, Lewis J. Bennett can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 557th, while Health Sciences Charter is ranked 68th).
Meanwhile, East ended up a good deal behind Health Sciences Charter on Thursday and lost 72-53. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for East in their matchups with Health Sciences Charter: they've now lost six in a row.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Pearsall, who scored 20 points along with two steals. That was a full 37.7% of East's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Mysean Morrison, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
Lewis J. Bennett has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for East, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-13.
Lewis J. Bennett was able to grind out a solid win over East in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 67-57. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was East's Rhondell Johnson, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Lewis J. Bennett still be able to contain Johnson? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
