Given St. Joseph Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 484th, while Orange Glen is ranked 1267th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Angel Ochoa was his usual excellent self, scoring 44 points along with six assists and six rebounds. That makes it 23 consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of St. Joseph Academy's points. Leonardo Valdez was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven steals.
St. Joseph Academy is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. As for Orange Glen, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-22.
St. Joseph Academy will head out on the road to square off against Del Lago Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Orange Glen, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Valley Center at 3:00 p.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Valley Center focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Friday.
