South (Salina, Kan.) beat Hutchinson (Kan.) 48-10 on the strength of a superb game by dual threat quarterback
Justin Stonebraker, who threw three touchdown passes while running for two more.
After taking the lead on a Stonebraker touchdown run in the first quarter, the Cougars led 27-3 at the half.
South expanded its lead to 38 points entering the fourth quarter. SHS scored three times in the third, including once on a
Mike Jones touchdown run.
Stonebraker and
Zach Nachbar teamed up to form a great passing pair. Nachbar has now caught three touchdowns this season, while Stonebraker has thrown 12.
Hutchinson's only touchdown came on a 1-yard run by Dekel Pope in the third quarter.
A 35-10 South victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The defeat comes as a step back for Hutchinson, who notched a 56-32 victory over Newton in its previous outing.
In a Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail Division I game next week South (3-2) takes on Newton, and Hutchinson (3-2) will go up against Derby also in a Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail Division I game.
