The Wharton Wildcats are taking a road trip to take on the Sickles Gryphons at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wharton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Wharton is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They walked away with a 7-4 win over Plant. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
Daniel Duno looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Chase Anello was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Justis Meadows, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
East Lake typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday Sickles proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over the Eagles. The result was nothing new for the Gryphons, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Ben Durda looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jordan Yost was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Nazar, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and three RBI.
Wharton's victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Sickles, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-9 record this season.
Wharton skirted past Sickles 2-1 when the teams last played back in February. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Gryphons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
