The Berks Catholic Saints will challenge the Wyomissing Spartans at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Berks Catholic had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Brandywine Heights Area on Monday. The Saints were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Bullets. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 30, 2018, but that streak is no more.
Dennys Rodriguez was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two runs, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Schalk, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Berks Catholic lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Wyomissing waltzed into their matchup on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 11-5 victory.
Wyomissing let Birkley Ziegler and Noah Rauenzahn run wild. Ziegler got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Rauenzahn went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Derek Macrina, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.
Berks Catholic's win bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Wyomissing, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 12-5.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Berks Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Wyomissing struggles in that department as they've averaged .364. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Berks Catholic took their win against Wyomissing when the teams last played on April 4th by a conclusive 7-1 score. Do the Saints have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
