The St. Vincent de Paul Mustangs will square off against the Piner Prospectors at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
St. Vincent de Paul had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 17-run drubbing they dealt Santa Rosa last Thursday. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 19-2 victory. With that win, the Mustangs brought their scoring average up to 7.8 runs per game.

Makayla Bignardi made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, St. Vincent de Paul got a massive performance out of Johana Stone, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI Stone has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava McCarthy, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
St. Vincent de Paul always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .775. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Piner got the win against Healdsburg on Wednesday by a conclusive 12-1. Considering the Prospectors have won four contests by more than eight runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like St. Vincent de Paul, Piner also got a great game from a two-way player: Mialynn Membrilla. She struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). Membrilla was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Genavieve De Mauro was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Ava Parra was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.
Piner has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for St. Vincent de Paul, they pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. St. Vincent de Paul has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .473. However, it's not like Piner struggles in that department as they've averaged .477. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Vincent de Paul suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Piner in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
