The Christopher Cougars will venture away from home to challenge the Leland Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Christopher is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Christopher and Gilroy, and Gilroy kept the tradition alive. The Cougars took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs on Saturday. The Cougars have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Leland had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 21-7 win. Considering the Chargers have won ten matchups by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Irene Kim and Londyn Letts did most of the damage at the plate: Kim got on base in four of her six plate appearances with seven stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI, while Letts got on base in all six of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those seven stolen bases gave Kim a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Halle Hernandez, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Leland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .638. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Christopher's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Leland, their victory bumped their record up to 11-3.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Christopher has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. However, it's not like Leland struggles in that department as they've averaged .573. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Christopher got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March against Leland by a conclusive 15-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
