After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Farmville Central, the Greene Central Rams were happy to have found some success on Friday. They came out on top against North Pitt by a score of 71-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Leading Greene Central to victory were Dontrez Evans and Denelly Coppedge. Evans scored 14 points along with five steals, while Coppedge dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Evans has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Deitrich Williams, who scored 12 points along with two blocks.
North Pitt's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamarcus Pippens, who scored 14 points along with three steals. Pippens is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Samuel Newkirk, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Greene Central's victory bumped their record up to 8-10. As for North Pitt, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing SouthWest Edgecombe the next time they take the court. Greene Central will host SouthWest Edgecombe at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while North Pitt will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
