The Lawrence County Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Loyd Star Hornets at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lawrence County will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
While Lawrence County's victory against McComb wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cougars had just enough and edged out the Tigers 6-5 on Friday. Six seems to be a good number for the Cougars as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Justin Walker tossed a big game, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bryce Prestridge, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Grey Boyd was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Loyd Star put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Thursday. They blew past Amite County 16-0.
Eli Thornton was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3. Loyd Star is undefeated when Thornton posts two or more runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Kees, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Loyd Star was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .522. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Loyd Star's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-8. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Lawrence County, their record now sits at 10-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lawrence County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Loyd Star struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Lawrence County couldn't quite finish off Loyd Star in their previous meeting back in March and fell 5-3. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
