Bishop Ireton is 0-5 against Archbishop Carroll since October of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Bishop Ireton Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Archbishop Carroll Lions at 1:00 p.m. Bishop Ireton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 91st in Virginia, while Archbishop Carroll is ranked seventh in District of Columbia).
After a string of three wins, Bishop Ireton's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They were beaten by St. Mary's Ryken 54-24. Bishop Ireton was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-14.
Despite the defeat, Bishop Ireton had strong showings from Omar Diallo, who rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.0 yards per carry, and Aaron Rocke, who gained 143 total yards and two touchdowns. Diallo was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 60 yards.
Archbishop Carroll never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Saint John Paul the Great Catholic last Saturday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 37-6 win over the Wolves. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Archbishop Carroll had established a 21 point advantage.
Archbishop Carroll found their leader in underclassman TK Davis, who rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Amadi, who rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown.
St. Mary's Ryken's win bumped their season record to 5-5 while Bishop Ireton's loss dropped theirs to 7-3.
Bishop Ireton couldn't quite finish off Archbishop Carroll in their previous matchup back in October and fell 18-16. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Archbishop Carroll's Davis, who rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown.
