The Christoval Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Sonora Broncos at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Christoval is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 24 runs last Thursday, they were much more limited against Colorado on Tuesday. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolves. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, Sonora gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Miles as they made off with a 12-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Broncos, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Stefani Trevino made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. Trevino was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tayvin Gonzales, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Brianna Sanchez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
The victory made it two in a row for Sonora and bumps their season record up to 14-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Christoval, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 15-5-1.
Christoval was able to grind out a solid victory over Sonora in their previous meeting back in March, winning 19-16. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
