Baseball Recap: Fort Calhoun Wins Going Away Against South Sioux City

Fort Calhoun barely beat South Sioux City the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pioneers blew past the Cardinals 8-1 on Friday. Considering the Pioneers have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Sam Genoways spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alex Christensen was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Premer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Fort Calhoun always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Sioux City only posted an OBP of .160.

Fort Calhoun is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for South Sioux City, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-7.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Fort Calhoun is set to challenge their familiar foe Thurston-Cuming County on Tuesday. Meanwhile, South Sioux City will face off against rival Skutt Catholic at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
