The Benedictine Cadets had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They strolled past Beach with points to spare, taking the game 50-32. Given Benedictine's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Beach is ranked 279th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Benedictine to victory were LaDon Bryant and Caleb Jones. Bryant scored 17 points along with seven rebounds, while Jones scored 16 points along with six rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bryant has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ejay Washington, who scored six points.
When it comes to explaining why Beach lost, one person who can't be blamed is James Tisby. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. Jayden Newton was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
Benedictine's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.1 points per game. As for Beach, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Benedictine and Wayne County will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Beach on the road again on Tuesday and play against Savannah Country Day at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Savannah Country Day focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
