Affton has enjoyed the comforts of home their last six games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Ritenour Huskies at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Affton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 on Wednesday.
Affton only won by three when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 20-point they dealt McCluer North on Wednesday. Affton was the clear victor by a 44-24 margin over McCluer North. Affton pushed the score to 42-19 by the end of the third, a deficit McCluer North cut but never quite recovered from.
Amelia Wilson was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 13 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna M daughtry, who scored nine points along with seven steals.
In what's become a running theme this season, Ritenour gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They blew past Hazelwood East, posting a 45-13 win on the road. Given Ritenour's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while Hazelwood East is ranked 385th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Affton pushed their record up to 10-9 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Ritenour, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
Affton didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Ritenour when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 33-29 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Affton since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
