The Archbishop Carroll Patriots will challenge the Northeast Vikings at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Archbishop Carroll headed into their last match having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Roman Catholic let them put that streak behind them. The Patriots put the hurt on the Cahillite with a sharp 13-1 victory on Wednesday. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Matt McGaughey spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Drew Mulligan was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Jalyn Tidwell was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Archbishop Carroll always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northeast). Everything went their way against Science Leadership Academy on Thursday as they made off with a 16-5 win. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with Science Leadership Academy: they've now won four in a row.
Junelfy Montilla-Contreras was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Montilla-Contreras was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Saunders Del Obre, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Calvin Castro, who scored four runs while going 3-for-5.
Archbishop Carroll's win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-4. As for Northeast, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
