The Canfield Cardinals fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Boardman Spartans on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 63-60. Canfield's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Boardman was led to victory by Sarah Bero and Mackenzie Riccitelli. Bero dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Riccitelli dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bero has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Duble, who scored five points along with six rebounds.
Canfield's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Boardman, they pushed their record up to 11-4 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Canfield will take on Austintown-Fitch at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Ohio (Austintown-Fitch is ranked 86th, while Canfield is ranked 83rd). As for Boardman, they will head out on the road to face off against Cardinal Mooney at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
