St. Laurence has won nine straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Fenwick has won nine straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Vikings will host the Friars at 4:05 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (St. Laurence 2.4, Fenwick 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
St. Laurence's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Mother McAuley. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.
Meanwhile, Fenwick won against Loyola Academy last Tuesday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again last Wednesday. The Friars had just enough and edged out Providence Catholic 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Friars have posted since June 3, 2024.
Sofia Kateeb made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Kateeb was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Bigham, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Gabriella Simon, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Fenwick is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for St. Laurence, their win bumped their record up to 14-4.
Everything went St. Laurence's way against Fenwick in their previous matchup back in April, as St. Laurence made off with a 15-2 victory. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Friars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
