1A Tri-County recap Oct. 3, 2012
James Kenan extended the longest winning streak in 1A Tri-County this week by beating Pender, 40-20. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Tigers.
Wallace-Rose Hill took down Trask 38-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
James Kenan's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Dominique Barnes threw for 138 and two touchdowns and T J Fullwood had 78 yards receiving. On the ground Marcelias Sutton chipped in 133 yards. James Owens helped James Kenan's passing attack out by catching two balls for 60 yards.
Daniel Montoya made the biggest impact on defense this week as Ken Avent's team beat the Patriots. The 5-foot-9 junior forced one fumble.
5-foot-9 quarterback Alfredo Garcia of Union is the league leader in passing yards this season with 438. He has also thrown four touchdowns. On the ground, the Tigers' Sutton has rushed for 704 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Sutton. The James Kenan star has three catches for 186 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place James Kenan takes on second place Lakewood. Last week, James Kenan bested Pender, while Lakewood.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Tigers take on the Leopards. James Kenan has allowed 65 points this season, while Lakewood has given up 92. The Tigers allowed 20 points last week as they topped the Patriots.
Pender made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,181 from 9,482. The advance stemmed from a 40-20 victory over the Patriots last week.
