Reno is 0-10 against Reed since April of 2022 but things could change on Saturday. The Huskies will take on the Raiders at 11:00 a.m. Reno is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Reno fell victim to Bishop Manogue and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 9-0 to the Miners.
Meanwhile, Reed faced McQueen in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Raiders put the hurt on the Lancers with a sharp 24-5 win. Considering the Raiders have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Britney Taelour was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayley Noble, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Elana Torres, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Reed hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 24 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Reed pushed their record up to 17-6 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Reno, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11-1.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Reno has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Reed struggles in that department as they've averaged .489. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Reno might still be hurting after the 20-4 defeat they got from Reed in their previous meeting on Tuesday. Can the Huskies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
