The Ascend Leadership Aviators's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 75-16 loss at the hands of Chatham Charter. While losing is never fun, Ascend Leadership can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 578th, while Chatham Charter is ranked 141st).
Meah Brooks was her usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with four steals for Chatham Charter. Brooks has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Hannah Headen, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Ascend Leadership's defeat was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.4 points per game. As for Chatham Charter, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ascend Leadership will square off against Clover Garden School at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Clover Garden School focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday. Chatham Charter won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Triangle Math & Science at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. Hopefully Triangle Math & Science focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
