The Richwood Lumberjacks will face off against the Highland Rams at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Richwood came up short against Midland Trail on Wednesday, falling 23-11.

Parker Giles was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Richwood's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Giles was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Riley Crites made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Owen Wayne, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Highland came into Thursday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over Craig County last Thursday.
Like Richwood, Highland also got a great game from a two-way player: John Wagner. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Wagner has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Zach Armstrong was incredible, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Carpenter, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Highland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Highland's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-5. As for Richwood, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Richwood has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Highland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Richwood suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Highland in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Lumberjacks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
