On Saturday, St. Francis came up short against Boylan Catholic and fell 45-38.
Loss or not, St. Francis got some senior leadership from Dolly Smith who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and Natalie Doyle who scored two points along with 12 rebounds and six steals. Doyle set a new season high mark in steals with six. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Naples, who scored seven points.
Even though they lost, St. Francis were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Boylan Catholic only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
Lilian Esparza was her usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds for Boylan Catholic. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Esparza has scored at least 25% of Boylan Catholic's points. Kaylee Harter was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
St. Francis' defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Boylan Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Francis will face off against IC Catholic Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. IC Catholic Prep and St. Francis are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Boylan Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against Freeport at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Freeport is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
