After flying high against the Brooke Point Black Hawks last Friday, the Riverbend Bears came back down to earth. Riverbend ended up on the wrong side of a rough 57-33 walloping at the hands of Massaponax on Thursday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Riverbend has scored all season.
Riverbend lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Hannah Alexander, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Alexander has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Long, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Massaponax had a senior duo take command as Faith Butler dropped a double-double on 11 points and 18 rebounds and Takiera Ramey scored 22 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Ramey is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Jada Johnson was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Riverbend dropped their record down to 8-4 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Massaponax, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-3.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Mountain View the next time they take the court. Massaponax will head out to face Mountain View at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, while Riverbend will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
