Last Friday, Grace Christian Academy lost to Grant Park at home by a decisive 60-45 margin. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Grace Christian Academy in their matchups with Grant Park: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the defeat, Grace Christian Academy got a solid performance out of Sam Marquardt, who scored 19 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Marquardt is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Ethan Reynolds was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Meanwhile, Donovan took a serious blow against Beecher on Friday, falling 81-36. While losing is never fun, Donovan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 579th, while Beecher is ranked 62nd).
Despite their loss, Donovan saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Ty Miller, who scored 8 points, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Griffen Walters, who scored 8 points along with 11 rebounds.
St. Anne's victory bumped their season record to 0-0 while Grace Christian Academy's defeat dropped theirs to 1-3.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's game: Grace Christian Academy have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4 threes per game. However, it's not like Donovan struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
